Walters mends Broncos bonds ahead of Billy's big milestone

Kevin Walters takes important step in repairing Broncos relationship for Billy's 100th game

Kevin Walters has made a significant move toward mending his relationship with the Brisbane Broncos by attending the club as a special guest for his son Billy's 100-game milestone.

Last season, Walters was devastated after being dismissed as Broncos coach and replaced by Michael Maguire, despite having two years left on his contract.

A respected figure at the club, Walters won five premierships as a player and came close to a sixth as a coach in the 2023 grand final.

However, after a disappointing 2024 season, his firing sparked considerable anger among Broncos legends, who felt the club mishandled the situation regarding one of their own.

This year, transitioning into a media role with Fox League, Walters has seemingly set aside any lingering animosity.

During his visit to Red Hill alongside Maguire, Walters presented his son with a Broncos jersey ahead of the milestone game against the Bulldogs at Accor Stadium.

"It was really good...

I have known him (Billy) for four or five years now and to see a player play 100 games is pretty special," said Maguire.

He added, "We always talk about playing one game, let alone 100, but I've been able to have a few of the boys with Adam Reynolds' 300th and Jordan Riki's 100th.

Now we have another one, so it's good to see the experience is within the team.

Kevvie came in and spoke really well.

It was nice to see a father and son together which was really special."

The controversy surrounding Walters' dismissal remains a sensitive topic, as former teammate Gorden Tallis recently questioned Brisbane CEO Dave Donaghy about it.

Meanwhile, Maguire has faced criticism for the team's uneven performance in 2025; however, he has recently led the Broncos to three consecutive wins, elevating them to fifth on the ladder.
