Wallaroos Star Aims for NRLW Contract at Magic Round

Samantha Treherne, a standout player for the Wallaroos, is eyeing an NRLW contract following her selection for the Harvey Norman Rising Talent Invitational, which coincides with the inaugural NRLW Magic Round in Newcastle this weekend.

According to nrl.com.au, participants will undergo position-specific skill assessments on Friday, with coaches and recruitment personnel from all 12 NRLW clubs present.

Those who make a strong impression could secure an NRLW contract.

Treherne, originally from Victoria and now based in Western Australia, has an impressive background, having represented the Wallaroos in 14 international matches, including the 2017 Rugby World Cup.

She has also donned the green and gold for Australia in rugby sevens.

At 32 years old, Treherne primarily plays as a fullback or winger.

Her rugby career includes stints in Super W with the Queensland Reds and Melbourne Rebels, before joining the Western Force this year.

She also competes in league for Perth's Ellenbrook Rabbitohs and made headlines at the CAS Championships in Melbourne last June, scoring two hat-tricks as her team, Western Australia, claimed the women's title by defeating Victoria 20-4 in the final.

Alongside Treherne, players from affiliated states will meet others selected from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, and the First Nations Gems, all of whom have shown significant potential to compete at the elite level.
