Wallabies weigh Nawaqanitawase Test return

Les Kiss expects to speak with Mark Nawaqanitawase about a possible Wallabies return before Australia's November Tests against England, Scotland and Wales.

The 26-year-old had said he planned to wait until Japan's League One season before playing again, as he prepares to live alone for the first time.

Kiss said he had mostly left him alone, apart from a message during State of Origin: "don't play well against Queensland".

"I haven't heard back from him yet, but we'll see," Kiss joked before Australia's Bledisloe Cup opener against the All Blacks in Auckland.

Nawaqanitawase ended his two-year Sydney Roosters stint with a rare finals feat: multiple tries in three straight finals, the first to do so since Reg Gasnier almost 70 years ago.

His form has fuelled hopes he could return to Rugby League after two years with the Saitama Wild Knights, but the Wallabies also have a home Rugby World Cup next year.

He has 11 Test caps, but does not qualify for overseas selection under Rugby Australia's Giteau Law. Kiss said he could be considered for an exemption.

His inclusion would intensify competition with Tom Wright, Max Jorgensen and Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii for backline places.

"I'll just let it settle for this week and then have some conversations and see where it goes," Kiss said.

If Nawaqanitawase misses November, Australia has seven Tests in 2027, including an Anzac Day Bledisloe Cup, before the World Cup.
