Xavier Savage, of the Canberra Raiders, has always been a man with a plan.

But when he found himself in the glitzy lights of Las Vegas, he knew it was now or never to make his move.

Inspired by the high stakes of Sin City, he took a gamble and popped the question to his now fiancee, Tahliah Simbolon.

With nerves of steel, Savage kept his proposal a secret, biding his time until the perfect moment.

As they say in Rugby League, sometimes you've got to go for it with a Hail Mary pass.

And with the backdrop of Vegas, the odds were in his favor.

While there won't be a Vegas wedding for this couple, they are planning a big celebration back home in Australia, surrounded by family and friends.

But for now, Savage's focus is on the upcoming season opener against the New Zealand Warriors at Allegiant Stadium.

As any good player knows, you've got to keep your eye on the ball and seize the moment.

Reflecting on his nerve-wracking proposal, Savage admitted, "Very nervous as anyone would be.

It's never easy, but glad that's over and she said yes.

Got that out of the way pretty early so I could focus on the footy as well this weekend."

In the game of love and Rugby League, sometimes you've got to take a risk and trust in your instincts.

And for Xavier Savage, his Vegas adventure will always be a cherished memory, a touchdown in the game of life.
