Xavier Savage, a fullback for the Canberra Raiders, found himself in a bit of a pickle trying to find the right moment to propose to his girlfriend, Tahliah Simbolon.
But as fate would have it, an unexpected trip to Las Vegas presented itself, and Savage saw it as a sign from the Rugby League gods that it was time to make his move.
With the neon lights of Sin City as his backdrop, Savage dropped to one knee and asked the question that would change both of their lives forever.
The adrenaline rush of the proposal was enough to take his mind off the nerves, and Simbolon's joyful "yes" was music to his ears.
While there won't be a Vegas wedding in their future, Savage and Simbolon plan to have a proper celebration back home in Australia surrounded by loved ones.
But before they can dive into wedding planning, Savage's focus is on the upcoming season opener against the New Zealand Warriors at Allegiant Stadium.
As he gears up for the match, Savage reflected on the whirlwind experience of proposing in Vegas, likening it to a tense moment on the field.
"Very nervous as anyone would be.
It's never easy, but glad that's over and she said yes," he said.
"Got that out of the way pretty early so I could focus on the footy as well this weekend."
In the unpredictable world of Rugby League, sometimes you have to seize the moment and make the most of it - whether you're scoring a try or asking the love of your life to spend forever with you.
And for Xavier Savage, that once-in-a-lifetime Vegas trip inspired a proposal that will go down in Rugby League history.
