Stefano Utoikamanu's transition from the Wests Tigers to the Melbourne Storm has significantly enhanced his skills and opportunities, particularly in his pursuit of a spot on the Blues team for State of Origin.

Reports indicate that Utoikamanu will play off the bench in the upcoming second game of the series in Perth, due to starting prop Mitch Barnett's season-ending knee injury.

Reflecting on his time with the Tigers, Utoikamanu expressed uncertainty about whether he would have made it into the Origin team had he remained.

He remarked, "It's hard to say.

The Tigers are going better now than we were last year, so I wouldn't know." His decision to leave the Tigers was influenced by the potential for growth within the Storm's renowned system.

He conveyed satisfaction with his move, noting, "I feel like the Melbourne Storm have such a good system, and being in it now, I'm happy I made the move and happy to be here."

Utoikamanu acknowledged the development that comes with playing for a reputable club, saying, "There's a system there that's made a lot of players become better.

A lot of players go there and become better, and there are a lot of teams you can't say that (about)." His recent selection for the series indicates that he is on the right path to revitalizing his Origin career after a brief stint in 2023.

With Barnett's absence creating a new opportunity, Utoikamanu is poised to make an impact in the upcoming match.
