The trial involving Zac Lomax and the Parramatta Eels kicked off on Monday morning, marking the first day of a hearing anticipated to span seven days, including additional sessions on March 13 and 17.
Proceedings faced several delays on Monday due to ongoing discussions behind the scenes.
However, representatives informed the court that both the Storm and the Eels are "very close" to finalizing an agreement regarding Lomax's potential transfer to Melbourne Storm.
Adam Casselden SC, Lomax's barrister, informed the court that talks extended late into Sunday night and remain active.
In light of the Monday delays, Casselden requested a postponement until Tuesday, to which Parramatta consented, agreeing to reconvene at 10 am.
"My present instructions are that the parties are very close to a resolution," he stated.
In response, Justice Kunc remarked, "I always wish both parties well in their attempts to resolve their differences," before granting the adjournment.
The Melbourne Storm are eager to secure Lomax promptly, especially following the news that their star winger, Xavier Coates, will miss the initial months of the season due to an Achilles injury.
One proposal from Parramatta was to postpone Lomax's availability until Round 2, ensuring he would not play against the Eels in Melbourne's season opener.
