Tragic Loss of Rising Rugby Star

Noah Johannssen, a promising prop for the North Sydney Bears, has tragically passed away at the young age of 22.

Originally from the Wests Tigers, where he participated in nine NSW Cup matches in 2025, he joined the Bears for the 2026 season but had yet to make his debut.

During his stint with the Tigers, he also featured in an NRL pre-season challenge match against the Bulldogs in 2025.

His brother, Tim, made his NRL debut with the Wests Tigers in 2024.

With his untimely passing, Noah, regarded as a rising star, was anticipated to be a significant player for the Bears this season.

His transfer to the Bears was set to connect him with the Perth Bears' feeder system as they approached 2027, enhancing his chances of breaking into the NRL.

A statement from the Bears acknowledged that Johannssen had only been with the club for five months but left a "lasting impression through his vibrant nature, dedication and the respect he showed to everyone around him."

CEO Gareth Holmes spoke highly of him, recognizing his exceptional character.

"Noah was a young man of great character. This is a heartbreaking loss, and the thoughts are with his family and loved ones," Holmes expressed.
