In a move that may have fans shaking their heads like a loose ball in a scrum, Hull FC head coach Tony Smith has parted ways with the club after a turbulent 18 months at the helm.

The seasoned Australian coach, who previously had a stint across town with rivals Hull KR, took the reins at the MKM Stadium in September 2022.

Despite some flashes of brilliance on the field, with 10 wins out of 27 games last season, the Black and Whites struggled to find their form and languished in 10th place.

This year has been no kinder, as they have stumbled through six losses in their seven league fixtures so far.

As the dust settles on Smith's departure, assistant coach Stanley Gene has also made his exit, leaving a coaching void that has been filled by Simon Grix and Francis Cummins on an interim basis.

Chairman Adam Pearson, speaking from the clubhouse, expressed gratitude to Smith and Gene for their efforts during their tenure with the first team.

With the team now handed over to the capable hands of Grix and Cummins, Hull FC will be looking to regroup and rally like a team fighting for a playoff spot.

Only time will tell if this coaching shake-up will be the catalyst for a resurgence or if the team will continue to struggle to find their footing in the Super League standings.
