Tonga select Fainu for World Cup

Wests Tigers five-eighth Latu Fainu is set to play in his first Rugby League World Cup when he represents Tonga in the 2026 tournament.

Now 21, Fainu made his Test debut for Tonga against England in Leeds in 2023.

He began his NRL career with Wests Tigers in 2024, showing composure and inventive play despite his age.

Fainu has scored five tries in 36 games for the club, making 13 appearances in 2026.

Tonga will start its World Cup campaign against England at HBF Park in Perth on Saturday, 17 October, at 8.05pm.
