Intense rivalry sets stage for epic battle for Pacific bragging rights
Star winger Sione Katoa has asserted that the rivalry between Tonga and Samoa will reach a State of Origin-like intensity during their matchup at Suncorp Stadium in October.
The highly anticipated clash is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, during the second week of the Pacific Championships, featuring a double-header that also includes a match between the Jillaroos and Samoa.
Tonga enters this tournament after a successful run last year, having defeated New Zealand in Auckland and coming very close to shocking the Kangaroos in the finals.
Both previous matches drew sold-out crowds, as Go Media Stadium and CommBank Stadium were filled with the vibrant "Red Sea" of Tongan fans.
This year, Tongan players expect the atmosphere to escalate even further, while also preparing for a strong turnout from the blue-clad Samoan supporters.
Katoa mentioned that Suncorp Stadium will serve as the ideal venue for the two nations to reignite their rivalry and expressed his excitement about wearing red at Queensland's home ground.
