Tommy Makinson, an English rugby league icon, will transition into coaching in Australia starting November 2027, marking a significant shift in his career.
While the specific NRL club he will join remains undisclosed, Makinson mentioned during an interview with Sky Sports that he has upcoming commitments in place.
He expressed enthusiasm about his forthcoming role, stating, "I'm really proud of what I've got lined up, so I'm really excited. I aren't playing in the NRL, that's for sure!"
At 34, Makinson retires with an impressive record of 386 professional games, though he never played in the NRL.
Beginning his journey in 2011 with St Helens, he contributed significantly to the team with 348 appearances until 2024, interspersed with brief loans to Whitehaven and Rochdale in 2013.
In 2025, he joined the Catalans Dragons, where he completed his playing career with 36 matches.
Makinson's accolades include representing England in 13 Tests and winning the prestigious Golden Boot in 2018, alongside numerous English club trophies.
