Joel Tomkins Appointed Permanent Head Coach of Catalans Dragons Until 2027
Joel Tomkins has been officially named the head coach of Catalans Dragons.
Following Steve McNamara's exit in May, Tomkins, who is the brother of player Sam Tomkins, has served as interim coach.
Despite having a challenging run with just one win in eight Super League matches, he has signed a two-year contract that will extend through 2027.
As the season progresses, Catalans finds itself in ninth place, trailing nine points behind the playoff spots with eight games remaining.
Tomkins expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, "I'm excited by the challenge and I'm motivated to make it a successful couple of years." He acknowledged the difficulties faced over the past eight weeks, saying, "Obviously, the last eight weeks have been difficult.
We've won one game but we've played really well and been close in a couple of games."
Tomkins is aware of the significant changes ahead for the team, admitting, "We understand where we are as a club.
It's going to be a big transition over the next year.
There'll be a lot of players leaving the club at the end of the season, a lot of new players coming into the team."
