The Gold Coast Titans are reportedly reevaluating their decision regarding head coach Des Hasler for the upcoming season, with indications that he may receive a "stay of execution" to retain his position.
Hasler's future has been uncertain for the past few months as the team contends for the wooden spoon alongside the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Speculation has swirled that he could either be dismissed or consider retirement at the conclusion of the 2025 season.
However, following a win against the New Zealand Warriors and a commendable performance against the Penrith Panthers-one that they likely should have won if not for controversial officiating decisions-there is renewed consideration for Hasler to remain as head coach.
"There are whispers around that maybe Des is going to survive now... there are some suggestions that Des may get a stay of execution," News Corp's Brent Read stated on Triple M's NRL Daily.
"I think he's done (but) now there are some whispers that the club may have a different opinion."
Recently reaching the notable milestone of 500 games as a head coach, Hasler's current contract contains a provision allowing the Titans to part ways with him at the end of the 2025 season if he fails to secure a spot in the top eight, which he regrettably didn't achieve this year.
