The Gold Coast Titans have officially announced the re-signing of Cooper Bai on a new deal, marking a positive development for the team. This announcement follows another significant update where Tino Fa'asuamaleaui confirmed an extension of his contract until the end of 2030.
Previously, Bai appeared close to leaving the Titans, as the Melbourne Storm had shown considerable interest in acquiring him. However, the young talent will now remain with the Titans, set to join their Top 30 squad starting in 2026.
As a result, Bai is secure with the Titans until at least the conclusion of the 2027 season. However, he may be tempted to leave for the 2028 season when the PNG Chiefs are anticipated to join the NRL.
The Chiefs will have the opportunity to negotiate with all players who are off-contract at the end of 2027, including those with player options, starting November 1, 2026. Bai could be a significant target for the Chiefs in their inaugural year.
Having made his debut for the Titans in Round 27 of the 2025 season, Bai also represented Papua New Guinea in the 2025 Pacific Championships, quickly earning a following as a cult hero among fans.
Being the son of Marcus Bai, a former Papua New Guinea international who played 13 Tests, Cooper is expected to have a promising Test career with the Kumuls and might consider a move to Port Moresby in 2028.
For now, however, Bai expressed his happiness with the Titans, stating, "The Gold Coast has always been my home and I'm proud that will continue."
