Titans Abandon Halfback Chase, Hastings' Future Uncertain

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Jackson Hastings' career in the NRL faces renewed uncertainty after a brief spark of hope. The former Newcastle Knights halfback, currently without a contract for 2026, is set to be let go by his team, with Fletcher Sharpe, Dylan Brown, and Sandon Smith taking precedence in the halves lineup.

Initially, there appeared to be a chance for Hastings to continue his NRL journey, as the Gold Coast Titans expressed interest in his potential addition. However, in a turn of events, The Mole, who initially reported on the Titans' interest, has since revealed that Hastings' move to Queensland seems unlikely.

Although sources indicated to Wide World of Sports that Titans coach Josh Hannay viewed "Jackson's experience and ability to get the team around the park as an asset," The Mole has now communicated that the prospective transfer is "off the table." As a result, Hastings finds himself with limited options, likely leading the 29-year-old to consider a return to the Super League in 2026.
