Tigers Focus on Retaining Jahream Bula

NRL 2026: Wests Tigers shift focus towards retaining Jahream Bula, linked to Canterbury Bulldogs, Jarome Luai departure, nrl 360, nrl news

The recent exit of Jarome Luai to the PNG Chiefs has redirected the Wests Tigers' focus to retaining their standout fullback, Jahream Bula.

Bula is currently under contract until the conclusion of the 2026 season. Despite this, he has not made a decision regarding his long-term future, although his contract includes both a player option and a club option, allowing for at least one additional season with the club.

As rival teams begin to show interest, the pressures mount on the Tigers to secure their star fullback not only for another season but for the long term, as the club aims to be competitive for a premiership in the near future.

"I don't think (a decision is fast approaching). They've been locked in talks over an extension and it hasn't happened and that suggests to me it probably won't happen before the deadline in two weeks," said Code Sports' Brent Read during NRL 360.

"Then the ball is in the Tigers court. They can take up that option for $900,000 for next year. I think they'll work hard to get something done in the next couple of weeks."
