Tigers CEO Shane Richardson has come to the defense of head coach Benji Marshall amid growing media criticism regarding internal conflicts within the team.
Recent reports suggested that Marshall had obstructed a potential hire of former St George-Illawarra coach Paul McGregor as his assistant coach.
In response to the media scrutiny, Richardson expressed his discontent with the nature of the articles circulating.
"The articles written earlier in the week, I understand journalism, clickbait and all the rest of it but agenda-driven journalism is not true," he stated on NRL 360.
He emphasized how the inaccuracies in reporting have been challenging for Marshall, asserting, "The lies that were written in that article were very difficult for Benji to take." Richardson's remarks highlight the tension between the club and the media, defending the integrity of the coaching staff amidst what he perceives as misleading narratives.
The situation illustrates the broader challenges professional sports teams face regarding public perception and media reporting.
