The Canterbury Bulldogs are taking a new approach to developing their next generation of playmakers, focusing on nurturing talent rather than buying it.

In an effort to ensure future success in the NRL, the club has implemented a 'halves Academy' to develop every playmaker from the under-17 Harold Matthews level to the NRL level.

Led by Canterbury supremo Phil Gould, the academy aims to provide specialist coaching to up to 14 players.

This renewed focus on developing quality halves is a response to the scarcity of such talent in rugby league.

The Bulldogs' General Manager of Pathways, Adam Hartigan, is confident that this approach will help prop up the club's future success in the NRL.
