Tevita Pangai-Junior, a former NRL powerhouse, has faced severe consequences following an alleged eye-gouging incident involving current Man of Steel Jake Connor.
The event took place during a match between Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos, where Leeds secured a convincing 34-18 victory over the weekend.
Upon entering the field, Pangai-Junior was promptly called out for the incident. Although he did not receive a card, the RFL review panel handed him a Grade F for gouging, marking it as the highest level of offense.
This decision has led to a hefty six-match suspension. If he accepts the charge, he will be sidelined for key matches against Hull FC, followed by games against Wakefield, Wolves, Tigers, and the Bradford Bulls.
This incident marked Pangai-Junior's third appearance for Hull KR, making a strong statement in his early tenure with the team.
The Tongan international joined the Rovers as a mid-season acquisition last month, aiming to reinforce Willie Peters' squad. However, his recent actions have put him in a precarious position, causing him to miss all of July and setting a return date in mid-August against his previous team, the Catalans Dragons.
Previously, he featured in 23 games for the French side in 2025.
This ban is a significant setback for Hull KR, especially as they prepare for a crucial derby against Hull FC during the Magic Weekend this Saturday.
The team is looking to welcome back more forwards, including Sam Luckley and Sauaso Sue, both of whom were absent from the match against the Rhinos due to injury.
