Tedesco's Fullback Bid Sparks Debate

Sydney Roosters' dummy half, Reece Robson, has initiated a campaign for James Tedesco to take over from Dylan Edwards as the NSW Blues fullback in Game 1 of the 2026 State of Origin series.

Currently, Edwards holds the fullback position and successfully retained his spot in 2025 over Tedesco.

Earlier in the year, Edwards' performance raised many eyebrows, as the Penrith Panthers struggled and fell to the bottom of the standings, resulting in significant public demand for Tedesco's return.

Despite this outcry, Laurie Daley remained loyal to Edwards; however, the Blues ended up wasting their one-nil lead and ultimately lost the series.

This year, Daley faces critical decisions that could impact his future as coach, including the choice of fullback. While Edwards has been vital in elevating Penrith to the top, Tedesco has continued to demonstrate exceptional skill.

Robson, who also feels the pressure to keep his place in the lineup, expressed his support for Tedesco during a media briefing on Wednesday, while recognizing the intense competition.

"Definitely," Robson remarked.

"There's a lot of great talent out there, but it's hard to go past his form at the moment. He's been unreal."

The fullback position is just one of several key spots where Laurie Daley must make important decisions, as three positions in the spine may be up for grabs.
