Joseph Tapine and Mele Hufanga have been honored as the 2025 Players of the Year for the Kiwis and Kiwi Ferns in New Zealand Rugby League.

Tapine's season in the NRL was remarkable. As the Captain of Canberra, he steered the team to its first Minor Premiership since 1990.

He participated in 23 of 27 games, earning his fourth consecutive Meninga Medal as the Raiders' Player of the Year, a remarkable feat in the club's history. Additionally, his peers selected him for the Rugby League Players' Association (RLPA) Players' Dream Team.

On the international front, Tapine showcased his talent during all three matches of the Pacific Championship, averaging 140 running meters per game. His performance included 34 tackles against Toa Samoa, 23 against Tonga, and a notable run of 174 meters in the final, resulting in a nomination for the International Rugby League's Golden Boot.
