Gorden Tallis has come out swinging in defense of his mate Kevin Walters, as well as himself, in the wake of Walters' shock sacking by the Broncos.

The former league legend has hit back at critics, calling the backlash a "witch-hunt and hatchet job" in classic Tallis fashion.

Walters was given the boot on Thursday, with CEO Dave Donaghy having his say on the decision the following day.

Rumor has it that Blues coach Michael Maguire is the frontrunner for the now vacant coaching gig at the Broncos.

Throughout the season, NRL360 co-host Tallis has been a staunch supporter of his ex-teammate Walters, adamant that he was the right man for the job.

However, their unwavering loyalty has drawn fire, with some accusing the Broncos 'old boys' of looking after their own.

But Tallis had no time for the haters, unleashing a verbal barrage on Triple M to set the record straight.

Tallis is not one to back down from a challenge, and he made it clear that he stands by Walters through thick and thin.
