The Perth Bears could be the strongest short-term rival for Sam Walker if the Roosters grant him an early release, rugby league reporter David Riccio said.
Speaking on SEN's 'The Front Office with Vossy', Riccio said the Bears could meet Walker's desired salary, close to $1.4 million to $1.5 million.
"The catch is there is one club that could offer the money that Sam Walker ultimately wants, which is close to $1.4 to $1.5 million. It's the Perth Bears," he said.
"Sam Walker could go to the Perth Bears and shift the dynamic of that new franchise effectively immediately. That's the catch.
The possibility follows the Roosters' decision on Monday night to withdraw their offer before the November 1 deadline.
Walker can now negotiate with rival clubs and could leave the defending premiers. Several teams have emerged as potential destinations, while possible replacements for Walker have also been discussed.
