Mark Nawaqanitawase has considered returning to rugby league over the past six weeks, despite signing a two-year deal with Japan's Saitama Wild Knights.
His Japanese contract is worth around $1.4 million in 2027 and 2028.
His mother said she hopes he stays:
"It's all Mark's decision in the long run, but he knows how much I've fallen in love with the club that he's at and the people who are there, and I wish he was staying."
Sunday night will be his final NRL appearance, as he pursues the Roosters' first premiership since consecutive titles in 2018 and 2019.
In two seasons, he reached the finals twice, represented Australia in the Ashes against England and NSW in State of Origin, and joined a series-winning side.
He won the 2025 Try of the Year for a Bulldogs score that attracted millions of social-media views.
When Nawaqanitawase was a free agent, Nick Politis was willing to make him the NRL's highest-paid winger, at around $800,000 to $1 million.
