"It's been an absolute honour to play alongside Sam Walker. I hope I have passed on some knowledge to him, but he'd be surprised at how much he's teaching me," Daly Cherry-Evans said.
The Sydney Roosters halfback will join the 37-year-old in Sunday's grand final, which will be Cherry-Evans' final NRL appearance before he joins Hull FC.
Walker, 24, helped dismantle the Dolphins 36-20 in Friday night's preliminary final, earning his first grand final appearance.
He returned just 27 days after sustaining a syndesmosis injury against the same team in round 26, matching the NRL's fastest recovery from that injury, alongside former Broncos playmaker Tristan Sailor.
"Hyperbaric chamber helped a fair bit," Walker said, describing the measures he took to recover.
"Every time I was at home, I was icing and compressing as much as I could."
Walker said he had targeted the preliminary final as his return date and was grateful to the Roosters' staff and medical team, acknowledging the club took a risk by playing him.
He and the club have delayed contract discussions until the season ends, and Walker becomes a free agent on November 1.
"There's not a glimmer of thought about that," Walker said of his contract situation. "It's about winning next Sunday."
"For sure, my preference is obviously to stay at the Roosters," he added, saying his immediate task was to perform and let the rest take care of itself.
Walker, a Roosters supporter growing up, set up a try for winger Daniel Tupou against the Dolphins with a high kick. Tupou had scored in the Roosters' 2013 grand final win, a game Walker remembered fondly.
Cherry-Evans said he had "fall in love" with the club in 12 months and that Walker would decide his future after the season.
Walker said he wanted to honour Cherry-Evans' contribution and send him off well.
