Sydney Roosters' Walker follows Keary's lead

Luke Keary in bombshell retirement development at Roosters as NRL rocked by sad news

Sam Walker made his debut with a grade-three AC joint injury and went on to play 21 consecutive games with needles, his father Ben told AAP.

On Sunday, the 24-year-old helped the Roosters defeat Newcastle 19-18 in the grand final and claim his first premiership.

He had returned from a syndesmosis injury after 27 days, a record-equalling recovery, to play in the Roosters' 36-20 preliminary-final win over the Dolphins.

Before signing with the club, a conversation with former Roosters playmaker Luke Keary convinced Walker it was where he could play his best football.

Keary won Roosters titles in 2018 and 2019, having also won with South Sydney in 2014.

Walker said, "For me to now win a premiership here at the Roosters is a dream come true."

He said the club's motto, "we play for premierships", had resonated with him.
