Mark Nawaqanitawase's first Roosters training day included wrestling sessions with club personnel.

Before joining the team, he had represented Australia in rugby sevens at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He switched from rugby union to the NRL midway through 2024 and signed a two-year Roosters deal beginning in 2025.

Roosters enforcers Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Dylan Napa later wrestled him, introducing him to the demands of the professional league game.

"I guess when you've such a talent that comes to the club, you want to expose him to what he's about to endure," Waerea-Hargreaves said.

Now Nawaqanitawase is preparing to leave the NRL for Japanese rugby union side Saitama Wild Knights.

He hopes to farewell the Roosters with a premiership, which they could win in Sunday's grand final against Newcastle.

As his departure sinks in, Nawaqanitawase has spoken of feeling sadness about leaving the NRL.

He can expect a civic reception when he returns to rugby union in the coming weeks.

Cooper Cronk has also discussed how the rugby-bound player revolutionised the NRL in just over two years.
