Sam Verrills is expected to rejoin the Sydney Roosters for 2027 on a reduced deal, according to News Corp, although the move has not been finalised.
The hooker is leaving the Gold Coast Titans at the end of 2026 after losing his place in the team's pecking order.
He began the season as new coach Josh Hannay's first-choice dummy-half but finished behind Luke Sommerton and Oliver Pascoe, who are expected to share the role.
Verrills' exit from the Titans became contentious, and his partner posted on social media suggesting other issues were involved.
After his departure, a move to England was expected, with St Helens believed to be interested in signing him.
Verrills played 117 NRL games, including 69 for the Titans after joining them in 2023.
He previously started at hooker for the Roosters in the 2019 grand final when Jake Friend was unavailable.
A starting role at the Roosters appears unlikely, as Reece Robson is contracted for three more years after returning from the North Queensland Cowboys at the end of 2025.
Verrills could instead earn a place on Trent Robinson's six-man bench and potentially start during State of Origin if Robson is selected ahead of Blayke Brailey and Wayde Egan.
