Stress-proof Rooster recruit defies age and expectations

Why pressure won’t faze key Roosters signing

Veteran playmaker Chad Townsend knew he was considered the benchwarmer when he joined the Roosters last year.

But now, with key players missing due to injury, the pressure is on him to take charge and lead the team's offense, despite the skepticism surrounding the team after losing several star players.

At 34 years old and entering his 15th season in the game, Townsend has had quite the journey.

From the Sharks to the Warriors, back to the Sharks, then the Warriors again, and finally the Cowboys, where he made a significant impact before being sidelined just before the finals.

Many thought that setback might spell the end of his career, but Roosters coach Trent Robinson saw potential in the experienced player and signed him on for a year.

Now, with young guns Walker and Smith out of action, Townsend has the chance to prove his worth and lead the team alongside Sandon Smith, after missing out on recruiting Ben Hunt.

"My mindset remains the same," Townsend remarked, knowing that when Walker returns from injury, he will likely step back into the starting lineup.

But, for now, the stage is set for Townsend to showcase his skills and guide the team through the challenges ahead.
