Storm Extend Forward's Contract; Another Soon

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Aiming to enhance their performance next season, the Melbourne Storm have extended the contract of an off-contract forward, with another extension expected soon.

Two-time Samoan international Lazarus Vaalepu, who was not among the five departing players announced by the club earlier this week, has signed a new deal that will keep him in Storm colours for an additional couple of seasons.

After debuting in Round 20 last season, Vaalepu participated in 12 first-grade matches after joining the club from the Canberra Raiders on a train and trial contract.

Initially only contracted for six weeks, he has garnered positive attention from club officials during his limited appearances. With the recent departures of Christian Welch and Nelson Asofa-Solomona, along with Tui Kamikamica's looming exit, he is anticipated to take on a more significant role in 2026.

"Whatever it takes, I'll try and get an extension there, so hopefully stay there."

"I wouldn't mind being in a one-man club."
