The NRL is witnessing a surge of young talent within its ranks, yet many promising players find themselves in limbo, unable to break into first-grade teams.
Melbourne Storm CEO Justin Rodski believes that the implementation of an NRL draft system is an "inevitable" development, although he recognizes the significant hurdles that such a change would present.
In a discussion on SEN's The Captain's Run, Rodski noted that the concept of a draft has been a topic of conversation in rugby league for some time. He acknowledged its complexity but expressed confidence that it will be adopted "at some point."
"It would be very difficult," Rodski remarked.
"I think in principle, the broader NRL industry would like to have a draft."
The idea of a draft was previously tested during the 1991 NSWRL season, but was abandoned after the Adamson v NSWRL Federal Court ruling deemed the system to impose an unreasonable restraint of trade.
Since then, it has not been reintroduced.
