Stonestreet Signs One-Year Extension with Sharks

Cronulla Sharks' promising winger, Sam Stonestreet, has announced he will remain with the club for just one more season. This commitment locks him in at the Shire-based team until at least the conclusion of 2026, although he can explore free agency soon given the upcoming November 1 deadline.

Stonestreet has recently been connected with a potential move to the St. George Illawarra Dragons, among other teams. However, as reported by Zero Tackle, interest from the Dragons has subsided as they evaluate how to replace Tyrell Sloan, who is likely leaving, while also aiming to build depth in their outside-back positions.

The implications of Stonestreet's deal for the Sharks' wing strategy remain uncertain. This season, he has primarily served as the backup for Sione Katoa and Ronaldo Mulitalo, which raises questions about his long-term position with the team, given that it seems unlikely he would want to stay in a supportive role indefinitely.

As it currently stands, Katoa's contract also expires at the end of 2026, while Mulitalo is secured until 2028. This situation may lead to a competitive scenario for the second wing spot at the Sharks, primarily involving Katoa and Stonestreet.
