Staggs Rumors of Exit from Broncos Dismissed

The recent rumors suggesting that Kotoni Staggs is seeking an exit from the Brisbane Broncos have been firmly dismissed.

The center had re-signed just last year, committing to the club until the conclusion of 2028. This decision, while advantageous for the Broncos thanks to Staggs' elite capabilities, added some strain to their salary cap.

The impending departure of Payne Haas in 2027 has alleviated some of that financial burden, yet speculative claims about Staggs wanting to change teams have been put to rest.

Moreover, the Broncos are unlikely to agree to Staggs' release even if he desires it, as he cannot begin negotiations with other teams until after November 1, 2027.

This timeline effectively shields him from interest from new franchises like the Perth Bears and PNG Chiefs during their inaugural seasons in 2027 and 2028. Additionally, the Warriors have reinforced their backline with long-term signings like Alofiana Khan-Pereira and Will Warbrick, making it improbable for them to invest heavily in bringing Staggs across the Tasman.

The rumors took the 27-year-old by surprise; he has not only participated in 150 NRL games but also represented Australia in six Tests and played State of Origin for New South Wales.

This year, he could even see a return to representative football, particularly with Blues star Stephen Crichton currently recovering from an AC joint injury sustained against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Although Casey McLean is favored to partner with Latrell Mitchell in the centers, Staggs could be a strong candidate for selection since he traditionally plays on the right, differing from both players' left-side positions.
