Souths stars hit back at Bennett criticism

South Sydney's players remain optimistic about their chances of making the finals this year, expressing confidence that master coach Wayne Bennett is the right person to guide them through a challenging period.

Despite a strong start to the season, winning four out of their first five matches, the team has struggled, securing only two additional victories and facing a six-match losing streak.

This has left them sitting near the bottom of the ladder, just above the Titans, while their NSW Cup team sits last.

The team's decline has been attributed to significant injuries among key players, but senior squad members emphasize that the responsibility rests with the players and not with Bennett, who rejoined the club this year.

Experienced forward Jai Arrow articulated this sentiment, stating, "He's the best man for it.

I know he is.

I've been in crappy situations many times in my career (so I know he's the right man for this)." He highlighted that the onus is on the players to elevate their performance, admitting, "Wayne's not out with us on the field, so we need to be better as players and take pride in the performances."

This message of accountability and belief in Bennett's leadership comes at a critical juncture for South Sydney as they look to turn their season around.
