Souths coach lifts the lid on plans for Jack Wighton amid Latrell Mitchell dramas

Souths coach Jason Demetriou has lifted the lid on his plans for Jack Wighton amidst the Latrell Mitchell dramas.

Despite calls for Wighton to be used in a more hands-on role, Demetriou has revealed that he intends to play Wighton in the centres.

This move comes after the Rabbitohs snared Wighton from the Canberra Raiders in a huge coup for the 2024 season, where he will join forces with his good mate Mitchell.

While Wighton has spent the majority of his career at five-eighth, he will now shift out to the centres due to Cody Walker occupying the No.6 jersey at Souths.

Wighton has shown his prowess in the centres for NSW and Australia, which is why Demetriou believes that's where he'll shine at the Rabbitohs.

Despite the option of using Wighton at fullback or five-eighth, some have called for him to be utilized in those positions, Demetriou sees him making a significant impact at left centre.

The coach is excited about the prospect of having Wighton on board, stating that he will make the team better.

Demetriou plans to spend time in the pre-season figuring out where Wighton fits best, but he appreciates Wighton's willingness to play wherever the team needs him.

This level of commitment from such a respected player sets an example for the rest of the team.

While there are differing opinions on where Wighton should be used, Demetriou's plan seems to be centered around his strengths in the centres.

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on how Wighton adapts to his new role and how he complements Mitchell's playing style.
