South Sydney delays Mitchell extension talks

South Sydney take legal action as club fumes over NRL's latest request of Latrell Mitchell

The Perth Bears are understood to be ready to pursue Latrell Mitchell as a marquee signing while assembling their NRL squad.

Mitchell is contracted to South Sydney through the end of 2026, but can negotiate with rival clubs from November 1 for the following season and beyond.

The Rabbitohs reportedly plan to return to extension talks in March next year, after assessing his World Cup campaign and pre-season.

The club wants to see the 29-year-old complete those periods without injury, following setbacks in recent seasons.

Asked about his future, Mitchell joked: "I'll ring Wayne," referring to his former coach.

He added: "For me, just focusing on camp is most important.

"I've got a different colour on to the Rabbitohs, so for me, it's all about this camp and focusing on that."

South Sydney chief executive Blake Solly told Fox Sports: "Trell is a discussion for next season."

Solly added: "He knows what he's got to do to get that extension and we're all on the same page."

Mitchell has said his focus is representing Australia at the upcoming World Cup and moving past recent injury frustrations.
