Scott Sorensen, the tough back-rower for the Panthers, missed out on the wild celebrations in the middle of Accor Stadium after last year's grand final victory.
While his teammates were whooping it up with the premiership trophy, Sorensen was on a different mission - searching high and low for his wife's missing keys.
As the Penrith players reveled in their triumph over Brisbane last year, Sorensen was in a frantic search for the elusive keys.
Despite the assistance of a few kind journalists, the keys remained elusive and the ring of keys was nowhere to be found.
In true sporting fashion, Sorensen put aside his own disappointment for the sake of his family.
He trudged back to the carpark with his wife and kids, pondering the possibility of a late-night locksmith rescue.
Fortunately, the keys were exactly where his wife had left them - on the front seat of the car.
"I was scrambling around, trying to find the keys for her," Sorensen admitted.
"She had the kids in the sheds having a blast, and she thought she had misplaced her keys."
Luckily, the crisis was averted, and Sorensen can now focus on his fitness and performance leading up to this year's grand final.
With the memory of last year's missed celebration still fresh in his mind, Sorensen is determined to enjoy the moment if the Panthers emerge victorious this time around.
