Sloan vs Tu: Backline Battle Brews

Tyrell Sloan, who tallied 17 tries in 20 matches for the St George Illawarra Dragons during the 2025 NRL season, faces uncertainty regarding his position in the back-line for the upcoming year. Recent pre-season training reports indicate that Sloan may lose his spot.

Rumors have circulated since June about Sloan's potential exit from the club. According to Wide World of Sports, he has fallen in the selection hierarchy behind new recruit Setu Tu, who is emerging as a strong contender for a Round 1 position.

The anticipated back-line is expected to include Clinton Gutherson, Christian Tuipolotu, Valentine Holmes, and Moses Suli.

Setu Tu, who has yet to make his first-grade debut, joins the Dragons after an impressive performance in the NSW Cup with the Warriors. He played a key role in leading them to victory in both the grand final and State Championship.

At 27, Tu has previously played in The Dolphins system, achieving notable statistics: 13 tries, 60 tackle busts, 13 line-breaks, two try assists, and an average of 1414 metres (approximately 101 per game) across 14 reserve-grade matches.

"He's elusive, athletic, robust - he ticks a lot of boxes for us," coach Flanagan said upon Tu's arrival at the club.

"He's good in the air, plays with a lot of confidence and is a genuine try-scorer."
