Slater's Future Uncertain Amid Coaching Rumors

‘Blown out of proportion’: Slater clarifies handshake deal... and responds to Gus’ ‘cheat’ claim

In light of the upcoming State of Origin decider, Queensland coach Billy Slater has addressed concerns regarding his coaching future and responded to comments from Phil Gould.

Recently, Slater caused a stir when he mentioned he wouldn't sign another contract with the QRL, suggesting future agreements would be based on an informal handshake.

Questions arose regarding this 'handshake' deal amidst speculation that he could succeed Craig Bellamy as head coach of Melbourne in 2027.

On Tuesday, Slater clarified that his comments had been "blown out of proportion."

"I don't anticipate not being here next year, so sorry for all those comments," he stated.

"It's just how I feel. I could be standing here in five years' time doing the same thing. I love this position, I love what it means, I love the group of men in that dressing room and I enjoy helping them prepare for that game of football."

These remarks signal Slater's commitment to his current role, despite ongoing discussions about his future with the team.
