bulldogs.com.au are reporting Silktails Dodge Cyclone to Play Round 1
The Kaiviti Silktails battened down the hatches and made a mad dash to avoid Cyclone Alfred, embarking on a grueling 12-hour journey to reach Sydney just in time for their clash against the Parramatta Eels in the opening round of the NSWRL's Jersey Flegg Cup today.
Coach Timoci Duve described the tumultuous journey as a curveball thrown at his team, but he praised his players for keeping their eyes on the prize despite their 26-6 loss at Hammondville Oval.
The Silktails had been in a training camp on the Gold Coast for a month, where they displayed their strength by defeating Queensland Samoa and the Redcliffe Dolphins in pre-season trial matches.
With the looming threat of the cyclone, the team swiftly sent their gear bus to Sydney a day ahead of schedule on Wednesday, anticipating a smooth flight on Thursday.
However, with Coolangatta Airport shutting its doors due to the wild weather, the gear bus made a U-turn and transported all the players via road instead.
The Silktails attempted to secure a commercial coach for the journey, but luck was not on their side as nothing was available in the eleventh hour.
