Shock Departure: Luai's Unexpected Early Exit

‘I’ll wear that’: Jarome Luai speaks out on ‘shock’ early Tigers split, Benji fallout rumours

Jarome Luai, the departing skipper of the Wests Tigers, expressed his surprise upon learning that he could part ways with the club a year earlier than expected.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Luai revealed that his early exit had nothing to do with alleged tensions between him and coach Benji Marshall.

Initially planning to leave in 2024, Luai's departure now aligns with his upcoming tenure with the PNG Chiefs in 2028.

Despite the unforeseen circumstances at the Tigers, Luai emphasized that his relationship with Marshall remains strong.

"I've got the utmost respect for Benji for the way he holds himself and how much he loves this club and how much he loves this team," Luai stated.

He added, "He's been real transparent with me and we've been able to have tough conversations which is why I respect him so much."

Luai concluded by affirming that, "We're not going to let a business decision get in the way of the relationship."
