The contract status of Gehamat Shibasaki has been clarified, but his future with the Brisbane Broncos beyond next year remains uncertain due to salary cap constraints.
Starting this year on a train-and-trial deal, Shibasaki impressed during pre-season, earning a spot in Michael Maguire's Round 1 team.
His inclusion in the Broncos' lineup was unexpected but turned out to be a wise decision by Maguire in his inaugural season at the club.
Following his strong performance, Shibasaki was upgraded to a development contract that will last until the end of 2025.
Additionally, he was selected for Billy Slater's Queensland State of Origin squad for Game 3, a surprising yet notable decision.
The Broncos also confirmed that Shibasaki has been promoted to the Top 30 for the remainder of 2025.
