Gehamat Shibasaki's rapid ascent continues as he forces his way onto the Australian Test squad for the Ashes after recently winning the Brisbane premiership.
Joining him is Broncos teammate Reece Walsh, who is also making his debut on the tour and could potentially take the No.1 jersey from Dylan Edwards, following his stellar performance that earned him the Clive Churchill Medal on Sunday.
Other new additions to the squad, which is led by captain Isaah Yeo, include Blayke Brailey, Keaon Koloamatangi, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Jacob Preston, and Ethan Strange.
However, Shibasaki is the standout player, having earned his place ahead of Bradman Best, thanks to the Broncos' significant triumph.
"He'd had one crack at the NRL and lost his way a little bit, but he's had a second chance and made the most of it," Walters said on Monday.
"We saw him play outstanding football in the State of Origin series, and then in the Broncos' run in the past six weeks he has been one of their go-to players.
"Last night, to have two tries in a grand final, he has virtually forced his way into the squad."
