Broncos centre Gehamat Shibasaki, currently a free agent, is considering his options for the future.
This week, the 28-year-old spoke about his thoughts on leaving the Broncos.
Reports emerged last week highlighting a $300k impasse between Shibasaki and the club due to salary cap limitations.
With key players like Reece Walsh, Ezra Mam, Patrick Carrigan, and Kotoni Staggs significantly impacting the salary cap, Shibasaki feels he deserves a substantial pay rise, seeking around $600,000 per season for a new contract extending beyond 2027.
Having secured a top-30 contract in 2025, Shibasaki has been earning over the NRL minimum, approximately $160,000.
This past season proved to be significant for the versatile centre, culminating in a premiership win, an Origin series triumph with the Maroons, and a selection for the Ashes series representing Australia.
He concluded the 2025 season with impressive stats, including 18 tries, 24 linebreaks, and six try assists, averaging 155 run metres per game.
During NRL 360 on Tuesday night, Pete Badel noted that while Shibasaki prefers to remain with the Broncos, the team is currently unwilling to surpass the $300,000 per season mark.
"He wants a big bump up. He deserves one, and there are four clubs sniffing around him," Badel remarked on 'NRL 360'.
