Sharks Players Face Charges After Match

After their tense victory against the Manly Sea Eagles, two players from the Cronulla Sharks, Jesse Ramien and Teig Wilton, have been cited by the NRL's match review committee.

Ramien, who was not penalized during the match, found himself reported a few moments later by the officials after a forearm to the head of Manly fullback Clayton Faulalo while he was on the ground.

This incident occurred during a tackle in the first minute when Ramien made an extra aggressive effort, leading to the contact with Faulalo's head.

Faulalo appeared to struggle to regain his footing, yet no immediate penalty was called as referee Todd Smith and his team seemed unaware of the foul until alerted by the bunker during the next play stoppage.

As a result, Ramien has received a Grade 1 charge, facing a fine of $3000 if he pleads guilty early, or he risks a two-match suspension should he decide to contest the decision and lose, as this marks his third offence on record.

On the other hand, Wilton was penalized for his late hit on Jamal Fogarty after the player released the ball, but he was not officially reported at that moment.

Despite this, the match review committee later charged the second-rower.

Wilton has received a Grade 1 dangerous contact charge, similar to Ramien's, but he will face a lesser penalty since he hasn't faced charges before.

If he pleads guilty early, Wilton will only incur a $1000 fine, or $1500 if he decides to fight the charge and ultimately loses.
