Shane Richardson has stepped down as CEO of Wests Tigers, just one week after the club's owners removed all four independent board members.
Following the upheaval instigated by the Holman Barnes Group, Richardson spent the past week contemplating his future. He joined the Tigers in late 2023, seen as a potential savior amidst years of poor performance and ongoing controversies.
Under his leadership, the club had shown signs of improvement, moving up the standings and achieving financial stability. However, Richardson had been an advocate for an independent board and maintained a close working relationship with the recently ousted chairman, Barry O'Farrell.
His resignation raises uncertainties regarding the futures of players Jarome Luai and Jahream Bula, both of whom have the option to leave the club by the end of 2026.
Just two weeks prior, Richardson had expressed optimism about retaining the two players, with speculation that Bula was on the verge of signing a new long-term contract.
