The lads over at warriors.kiwi have given us the lowdown on the recent SG Ball match where the NZ Warriors were oh so close to clinching their first win of the season.
Unfortunately, they were pipped at the post by Illawarra in a nail-biting 26-28 battle at Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe.
After being denied victory in their first three games, the Warriors came out swinging against the Steelers, setting the tone with a scintillating try that spanned 60 meters.
Center Compton Purcell made a stunning break before setting up halfback Maui Winitana-Patelesio for a dazzling finish, giving the Warriors an early 6-0 lead just three minutes in.
The Steelers fought back on the right side, but the Warriors found their groove and started to build some serious momentum.
They worked the ball out to winger Connor Bowden, who notched up his fourth try of the season, and then prop Paea Sikuvea powered through the Illawarra defense to score a crucial try right under the posts.
Next up, the Warriors will be hitting the field at Navigation Homes Stadium once again for a Harold Matthews-SG Ball doubleheader, this time taking on the Melbourne Storm who currently sit in eighth place.
Get ready for more heart-pounding action and let's hope the Warriors can turn the tide and secure that elusive first win of the season.
