Anthony Seibold, the former head coach for the Manly Sea Eagles, Brisbane Broncos, and South Sydney Rabbitohs, has officially joined the PNG Chiefs as an assistant coach ahead of their first campaign in 2028.
This new role will see him collaborating with Willie Peters and Luke Burt, as the Port Moresby team prepares for their debut season. The franchise has also secured five players for the upcoming season: Jaroe Luai, Alex Johnston, Connor Watson, Matty Lees, and Zac Lomax.
Previously dismissed by the Manly Sea Eagles earlier this year, Seibold has been rumored to take on various assistant coaching positions. Reports indicate that he is content with this new role rather than pursuing another head coaching opportunity, especially after the challenging experiences he faced at both Manly and Brisbane.
"I'm looking forward to working with Willie Peters and supporting the vision this club has," Seibold expressed in a club announcement.
He added, "The Chiefs are building something special with strong values and great people, and I'm excited to play my part in helping them succeed.
"The chance to make a positive impact on players, staff and the wider community was a big reason I wanted to join the Chiefs. Success on the field is important, but building something that inspires people across Papua New Guinea is just as meaningful."
With a coaching tenure spanning 142 NRL games, Seibold brings significant experience to the Chiefs, having also worked in rugby union and AFL.
