Sea Eagles Focus on Joey Walsh's Future

Joey Walsh, the promising young talent for the Manly Sea Eagles, has initiated discussions regarding his future with the club.

The franchise is eager to prevent him from entering the open market on November 1.

In recent games, the young halfback has showcased his skills while stepping in for Jamal Fogarty and is seen as the future mainstay at number seven for the team.

Manly is familiar with competing for his commitment, having previously contended against rugby union clubs, given Walsh's dual-sport background.

Currently under contract until the end of 2027, he could opt to explore the open market if he chooses, but sources indicate that his preference leans towards staying with Manly.

According to News Corp, negotiations have commenced, as the club is keen to finalize a deal soon, viewing Walsh as a top priority for both recruitment and retention.

It remains uncertain if Walsh will solidify his future before Manly finalizes their head coach, though Kieran Foran's success in securing five wins out of six since taking over from Anthony Seibold suggests a resolution may be forthcoming.

At just 19, Walsh is perceived as a future star for representative teams and is currently outpacing peers like Kade Reed of the Dragons and Mitchell Woods, who has faced injury challenges at the Bulldogs.

Should he not renew his contract with the Sea Eagles, Walsh is expected to garner interest from both rugby league and rugby union.
